MP convenes meeting to discuss alternatives to Option A
22/1/10Andrew George has invited key organisations and individuals to a meeting to discuss the future of the Isles of Scilly ferry link arrangements in Penzance.
According to Mr George “The meeting will commence with three assumptions. I fully appreciate that they are the subject of passionate debate, even dispute. Nevertheless, I believe they are reasonable and it would be irresponsible at this stage not to, at the very least, plan for such an eventuality; a scenario I believe is very likely.
The assumptions are: i.) that Option A is not deliverable, ii.) Falmouth is not a realistic alternative, and iii.) We risk losing the Ferry Link project and funding altogether.
Therefore such a meeting would not discuss the merits or otherwise of Option A or Falmouth nor the past history and interpretations on how we got to where we are now. The purpose of the meeting is to commence the process of a quick review of alternative solutions to the need to create new Penzance passenger and freight handling facilities and to encourage wider stakeholder involvement.”
The meeting will take place in the afternoon of Monday 1st February 2010 in Penzance. The Friends of Penzance Harbour welcome the initiative and will participate constructively in the discussions.
