Friends launch Fighting Fund to defend historic seafront
29/9/09The willingness of Cornwall Council to ignore public opinion and the existence of viable, less destructive alternatives, and push ahead with plans to build on Battery Rocks beach has forced the Friends of Penzance Harbour to set up a Fighting Fund to pay for a legal defence of the town’s historic seafront.
No one wants to go down the legal route, but Cornwall Council and the Route Partnership may leave us with no alternative and we must be prepared. Building on Battery Rocks beach is not an option and we will fight the plans in every way possible including challenging their legal validity in the Courts.
Supporters are being asked to pledge financial support, with pledges taken up only if all other avenue’s fail and a legal challenge is necessary to save Penzance’s historic seafront. A special "pledge support" facility can be found on the home page of the Friends of Penzance Harbour web site.
